Hardin Baptist Church
is located in
Gaston County which borders the west side of Charlotte, NC. In 1922 the church began with 19 charter
members in a small town that was formerly called Worth, NC. When the church
began, the town
consisted of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hardin Cotton Mill, a local
grocery store, barbershop and school. It was not long after its
beginning that Hardin began to play a significant role in the life of the
community. Until the mid 1970’s when the mill closed the church had continued to
be a local community church that focused on the unique needs of the Hardin area.
However, once the mill closed people rapidly moved away. Most of the old mill
homes burned down, the school was closed and the few businesses in the tiny town
went away. About that same time,
God called Fain Farmer as the Sr. Pastor to Hardin Baptist Church.
Rev. Farmer stayed
until 2001 while God used him to transform the church from a local mill town
community church to a church with a regional focus and an evangelistic priority.
In 2002 God called a new Lead Pastor to Hardin,
Austin Rammell.
God began yet another transition with the church. Hardin is
aggressively changing to be able to communicate the Gospel to new generations of
people living in Gaston and other surrounding counties. It has been said that
only 18% of GenXer’s (ages 25-45) understand basic truths about the Bible. Even
more shocking is that only 4% to 6% of Millennial’s (ages 5-25) understand basic
truths about the Bible. Therefore, Hardin Baptist has changed or is changing
almost everything about the church to make sure the legacy of the church is one
that “becomes all things to all men, that by all means [we] might save some.” (1
Corinthians 9:22). As a result of what God
has done in transitioning the church, Hardin is now made of a very high
percentage of GenXer’s and Millennial’s. Many of those who come to
Hardin have never actively attended any church and are very new to the idea of
worshipping and following Christ. The church is now full throttle on its vision
to do nothing but “Connect People To The Person and Cause and Christ!” Its
budget, staff and ministries all reflect a movement of believers who believe the
world needs to know the love of Christ both in truth and in action.
Hardin Baptist believes that the Bible
is the Word of God in perfect form; salvation is provided completely by the
Grace of God and received only through personal faith in Jesus Christ; and that
every believer is called to be a witness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through a
testimony of genuine love and through verbally sharing the truth of Jesus
Christ.
